Reflection from a book

I have chosen to read Harry Potter and the deathly hallows. I have read it before and decided to read it once again when the first part of the book had release on the cinemas not long time ago. I think you all have heard something about the famous story and got a hint what the book is all about. Below I will give you the publisher’s description.

“The Final Chapter
Harry has been burdened with a dark, dangerous and seemingly impossible task: that of locating and destroying Voldemort's remaining Horcruxes. Never has Harry felt so alone, or faced a future so full of shadows. But Harry must somehow find within himself the strength to complete the task he has been given. He must leave the warmth, safety and companionship of The Burrow and follow without fear or hesitation the inexorable path laid out for him.”

During reading the book the feeling of “how can she write so well?”. It was kind of spellbinding, really got connected and kept wondering how can she write that long story and still keep the excitement “level” so high.” I really was impressed that the excitement level can be so high throughout the book. But well, to the point, it is sometimes an overwhelming feeling that the world we live in today could be ruled in the future of a “dark force”. It maybe sounds childish, but imagine a nature disaster and the laws and rules do not matter anymore. Groups being formed to build up a society and it may end up with the strongest groups will survive because of lack of food and resources. Trying to live that way that Harry did during the time finding the Horcruxes would be a nightmare scenario. Constantly lives in danger and never has the feeling of safety. To know that there are people who want you dead or at least want you get caught and use you.
Just imagine the scenario of living in a world when the problem is not “to study or to work?”. The question rather be “to live or die?”, how to keep surviving. Where to find food and shelter, which people can you trust, is it better to constantly be on free foot or is better to try to build a society?

Are you prepared?

My thought after viewing The Story of Stuff

It was an interesting and touching movie. But on the other hand it feels like propaganda, all those numbers she mentions and so on. But I think this is a good way to make people react and may think about what they either buying stuff or how the recycle or not recycle trash they are about to throw away. Do I really need this new stuff or not, just because it is the latest updates or what so ever.

The problem is that it is easy to say I will change my routines and be a better person for the environment, but it is hard to actually do it. You maybe succeed, but as Annie said “this becoming a culture to buy things. The companies figuring how to sell so much as possible and make the profit as big as possible with updates or changing the design”. It is hard to change that culture, don’t think people actually care about the environment even if they say they do. And the company will not produce less, the companies want to make as big profit as possible. Well, they could invest in better system which gives less pollution and follow the rules of fair trade and so on. Better technologies will make the possibilities better in the future. I don’t know if it was in the 50’s they said that the resources will run out in 50 years, but today with better technologies than in the 50’s we noticed, that is not the case… But the development must go faster, especially in the third world countries and big industry countries as USA and China.

Surveillance or not?

I've read the text we had in class and I'll try to keep my content to the parts I read. First I've to say that I agree with the boss in the second stretch, "I don't give a rat's rear what they do at home," "But what they do at work is all my business." but it's a bit of lack in that argument, because it does matter what they do on their free time. If there were some people at their free time “misbehaving”, e.g.  viewing of child pornography, it may blacken the company’s name.

If the management using surveillance or tracking the workers through GPS they should inform the staff, especially if they go trough their email. I get the point to not inform the staff too, just to see if the staff doing their job. But to inform the staff, it would probably put pressure or at least make them aware that people are watching them and it would probably lead to that the staff doing its job.

I don’t have a opinion about to have surveillance in the society. It has a lot of good features, but still it has some downsides. What do you think about it?
